♥ Book Title : Mein Kampf (My Struggle)
☯ Full Synopsis : "Product Dimensions: 8.3 x 5.3 x 1 inches The angry ranting of an obscure, small-party politician, the first volume of Mein Kampf was virtually ignored when it was originally published in 1925. Likewise the second volume, which appeared in 1926. The book details Hitler's childhood, the "betrayal" of Germany in World War I, the desire for revenge against France, the need for lebensraum for the German people, and the means by which the National Socialist party can gain power. It also includes Hitler's racist agenda and his glorification of the "Aryan" race. The few outside the Nazi party who read it dismissed it as nonsense, not believing that anyone could--or would--carry out its radical, terrorist programs. As Hitler and the Nazis gained power, first party members and then the general public were pressured to buy the book. By the time Hitler became chancellor of the Third Reich in 1933, the book stood atop the German bestseller lists. Had the book been taken seriously when it was first published, perhaps the 20th century would have been very different.Beyond the anger, hatred, bigotry, and self-aggrandizing, Mein Kampf is saddled with tortured prose, meandering narrative, and tangled metaphors (one person was described as "a thorn in the eyes of venal officials"). That said, it is an incredibly important book. It is foolish to think that the Holocaust could not happen again, especially if World War II and its horrors are forgotten. As an Amazon.com reader has pointed out, "If you want to learn about why the Holocaust happened, you can't avoid reading the words of the man who was most responsible for it happening." Mein Kampf, therefore, must be read as a reminder that evil can all too easily grow. --Sunny Delaney --This text refers to the Hardcover edition"Article| Adolf Hilter| Statement ..."
♥ Book Title : The Hitler Book
☯ Full Synopsis : "Stalin had never been able to shake off the nightmare of Adolf Hitler. Just as in 1941 he refused to understand that Hitler had broken their non-aggression pact, he was in 1945 unwilling to believe that the dictator had committed suicide in the debris of the Berlin bunker. In his paranoia, Stalin ordered his secret police, the NKVD, precursor to the KGB, to explore in detail every last vestige of the private life of the only man he considered a worthy opponent, and to clarify beyond doubt the circumstances of his death. For months two captives of the Soviet Army--Otto Guensche, Hitler's adjutant, and Heinz Linge, his personal valet--were interrogated daily, their stories crosschecked, until the NKVD were convinced that they had the fullest possible account of the life of the Führer. In 1949 they presented their work, in a single copy, to Stalin. It is as remarkable for the depth of its insight into Adolf Hitler--from his specific directions to Linge as to how his body was to be burned, to his sense of humor--as for what it does not say, reflecting the prejudices of the intended reader: Joseph Stalin. Nowhere, for instance, does the dossier criticize Hitler's treatment of the Jews. Today, the 413-page original of Stalin's personal biography of Hitler is a Kremlin treasure and it is said to be held in President Putin's safe. The only other copy, made by order of Stalin's successor, Nikita Khrushchev, in 1959, was deposited in Moscow Party archives under the code number 462A. It was there that Henrik Eberle and Matthias Uhl, two German historians, found it. Available to the public in full for the first time, The Hitler Book presents a captivating, astonishing, and deeply revealing portrait of Hitler, Stalin, and the mutual antagonism of these two dictators, who between them wrought devastation on the European continent."Article| Henrik Eberle| Statement ..."

♥ Book Title : Becoming Hitler
☯ Full Synopsis : "In Becoming Hitler, Thomas Weber continues from where he left off in his previous book, Hitler's First War, stripping away the layers of myth and fabrication in Hitler's own tale to tell the real story of Hitler's politicisation and radicalisation in post-First World War Munich. It is the gripping account of how an awkward and unemployed loner with virtually no recognisable leadership qualities and fluctuating political ideas turned into the charismatic, self-assured, virulently anti-Semitic leader with an all-or-nothing approach to politics with whom the world was soon to become tragically familiar. As Weber clearly shows, far from the picture of a fully-formed political leader which Hitler wanted to portray in Mein Kampf, his ideas and priorities were still very uncertain and largely undefined in early 1919 - and they continued to shift until 1923."Article| Thomas Weber| Statement ..."
♥ Book Title : Hitler's Fatal Sickness and Other Secrets of the Nazi Leaders
☯ Full Synopsis : "The author was a U.S. Army surgeon who had access as a consulting urologist to the Nazi leaders tried for war crimes at Nuremberg. This book records his professional impressions of those men and their medical conditions. Included is a lengthy chapter on Adolf Hitler's health problems, with a resulting (and surprising) diagnosis of advanced Parkinson's disease. More important than the text are the photographs, many showing personal artifacts of the Nazi leaders. More than 400 are reproduced, many from the author's collection and not available elsewhere. Hitler had parkinsonism, Lattimer posits, probably the "faster moving post-encephalitic" sort, and he cites reports of Hitler's tremors, first in the left hand, then spreading to other limbs; his well-documented attacks of rage; and the discontinuation of his "powerful public appearances" after 1940 as chief among many clues supporting his thesis. As for the fuhrer's sidekicks, Lattimer reveals how Goring's tailors coped with his ponderous and fluctuating physique and presents photographic evidence of his daughter Edda trying to avoid the fuhrer's attentions. Jodl, Keitel, the insufferable Ribbentrop, Speer, and Streicher all receive Lattimer's scrutiny, but there are no chapters on Himmler and Goebbels, who both cheated justice--and this book based on discoveries of the Nuremberg trials--by committing suicide before they could be tried."Article| John Lattimer| Statement ..."

Hitler's First War is a radical revision of the period of Hitler's life that is said to have made him. Through the stories of the veterans of his regiment, Thomas Weber challenges the mythical view presented in Mein Kampf to show a Hitler who was shunned by the frontline soldiers of his regiment as a 'rear area pig' and who wasstill unsure of his political ideology even at the end of the war in 1918."Article| Thomas Weber| Statement ..."

♥ Book Title : Hitler - A Biography
☯ Full Synopsis : "Despite his status as the most despised political figure in history, there have only been four serious biographies of Hitler since the 1930s. Even more surprisingly, his biographers have been more interested in his rise to power and his methods of leadership than in Hitler the person: some have even declared that the Führer had no private life. Yet to render Hitler as a political animal with no personality to speak of, as a man of limited intelligence and poor social skills, fails to explain the spell that he cast not only on those close to him but on the German people as a whole. In the first volume of this monumental biography, Volker Ullrich sets out to correct our perception of the Führer. While charting in detail Hitlerâe(tm)s life from his childhood to the eve of the Second World War against the politics of the times, Ullrich unveils the man behind the public persona: his charming and repulsive traits, his talents and weaknesses, his deep-seated insecurities and murderous passions. Drawing on a wealth of previously neglected or unavailable sources, this magisterial study provides the most rounded portrait of Hitler to date. Ullrich renders the Führer not as a psychopath but as a master of seduction and guile âe" and it is perhaps the complexity of his character that explains his enigmatic grip on the German people more convincingly than the clichéd image of the monster. This definitive biography will forever change the way we look at the man who took the world into the abyss."Article| Volker Ullrich| Statement ..."
